Season 2022/2023 auditions

The Orchestre de Paris and its Music Director Klaus Mäkelä confirm their international social and educational ambition by launching the new Orchestre de Paris Academy. It is aimed at young instrumentalists wishing to acquire a an in-depth experience as an orchestral musician.
This new edition, which will take place at the Philharmonie de Paris, 
is made up of two parts:  the Summer Academy from 30 August to 4 September 2022 and the  Studio Academy from January to April 2023 inclusive.

The Summer Academy

From 30 August to 4 September 2022

  • 25 academicians: violins, violas, cellos, double basses, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet and horn
  • 6 days of intensive training alternating sectionals and tutti and individual work at the Philharmonie de Paris
  • Pedagogical coaching by the soloists and tutti players of the Orchestra- Concert at the Philharmonie de Paris, conducted by Klaus Mäkelä
  • Side by side orchestral format made up of academicians and Orchestre de Paris musicians
  • Accommodation and meals provided

The Studio Academy

From January to April 2023 inclusive

  • 5 laureate musicians also participating in the the Summer Academy:
    2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 double bass
  • 4 months of immersive experience
  • Approximately  25 concerts at the Philharmonie de Paris conducted by the greatest conductors (notably Klaus Mäkelä)
  • Chamber music concerts
  • Programme preparation and tutoring by the soloists and tutti players of the Orchestre de Paris
  • International tour - Luxembourg, Netherlands, Germany, Austria
  • Audition technique training
  • Participation and awareness of activities alongside concert productions

Applications will be accepted until 6th February included. 

The Orchestre de Paris is able to award a limited number of travel and accommodation grants for the auditions and summer academy based on a combination of financial need and artistic merit. Please refer to the "informations and regulations" document.

  • The Academy is open to all candidates who have reached the age of majority (18 years and over), are currently studying music or have completed their higher music studies. 
  • Candidates must not be permanent members of a professional orchestra. 
  • Candidates must be available for all dates concerning their instrument. 
  • Fluency in English or French is obligatory.

The 5 string winners selected for the Studio Academy also participate in the Summer Academy.
