Season 2024/2025 auditions

The Orchestre de Paris and its Music Director Klaus Mäkelä confirm their international, social and educational ambition with the launch of the 2024/2025 edition of the Orchestre de Paris Academy. Aimed at all young top-level instrumentalists wishing to acquire an in-depth orchestral experience, this Academy comprises of two sessions at the Philharmonie de Paris : the Summer Academy from August 27 to September 1, 2024 inclusive and the Studio Academy from January to May 2025 inclusive.

PROGRAMME AND SCORE AUDITIONS MAY 2024

The Summer Academy

From August 27 to September 1 2024 inclusive

  • Repertoire includes Stravinsky – Petrouchka (1947), and Ravel – La Valse
  • 45 academy members: violins, violas, cellos, double basses, flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons,trumpets, horns, trombones, tuba, timpani, percussions.
  • 6 days of intensive training alternating sectionals, tutti and individual work at the Philharmonie de Paris.
  • Pedagogical accompaniment by the Principals and sectional members of the Orchestre de Paris.
  • Concert at the Philharmonie de Paris, conducted by Klaus Mäkelä and guest conductor Petri Sakari.
  • Side by side orchestra format made up of academy members and Orchestre de Paris musicians, under the direction of Petri Sakari.
  • Accommodation and meals provided.

The Studio Academy

From January to May 2025 inclusive

  • 5 laureates: 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 double bass - also participating in the Summer Academy.
  • 5 months of professional experience.
  • 25 concerts at the Philharmonie de Paris, conducted by top conductors (notably Klaus Mäkelä).
  • Chamber music concerts.
  • Programme preparation and tutoring by Principals and sectional members  of the Orchestre de Paris.
  • International tour – Vienna, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Köln…
  • Audition technique training.
  • Participation in the orchestra’s outreach activites
  • Monthly allowance.

Application closing date: February 12, 2024.

The Orchestre de Paris will award special aid to cover travel and accommodation costs for certain candidates with limited financial means enabling them to travel to the auditions and the Summer Academy. This aid is awarded on the basis of social and artistic criteria.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS 
  • The Academy is open to all candidates 18 years and over, who are currently studying music or have completed their higher education music studies.
  • Candidates must not be permanent members of a professional orchestra.
  • Candidates must be available for all dates concerning their instrument.
  • Fluency in English or French is obligatory.

WIND, TIMPANI AND PERCUSSIONS
Selection via below form and videos only.

STRINGS
Pre-selection via below form and videos, followed by auditions at the Philharmonie de Paris.

  • Violas: May 16 2024
  • Cellos: May 2 2024
  • Double basses: May 17 2024
The 5 string winners selected for the Studio Academy also participate in the Summer Academy.
